As women age, their hormones gradually begin to decrease, hormones are altered with childbirth, perimenopause and menopause. Typically, women begin experiencing symptoms of the decrease in hormones in the late thirties to early forties at the onset of Perimenopause.
Perimenopause is a transition period marked by irregular menstrual cycles as the ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone, both hormone levels fluctuate at this time, which can disrupt our sleep and cause night sweats and hot flashes. Some common symptoms in perimenopause are hot flashes, weight gain, decrease or loss of libido, decrease in energy levels, vaginal dryness, mood swings, brain fog and sleep disturbances. Women continue to experience symptoms, often increasing in severity along the road to menopause. Menopause is defined as the absence of menstruation for one full year.
